In the box: 1 XL, 1 Midi and 1 Mini square, all in grey Valchromat. Flat packed with screws and a postcard with QR code links to the assembly videos. Clamps are not included. You will need a drill and a 2.5 mm or 3 mm bit to pilot the screw holes after push fitting the parts together.

Specifications

Material: CNC-machined from 12 mm Grey Valchromat®, a high-performance, colour-throughout fibreboard. Stronger, denser, and more durable than typical MDF; smoother and flatter than birch plywood.

Dimensions: XL Size: Height 304mm to top surface; 292mm below overhanging lip (ie just fits within a 300mm internal depth bookcase). Width of top plate 250mm. Width of each side face 232mm. MIDI Size: Height 203mm max; 191mm to underside of lip; 18mm lip overhang; Max width of top plate 210mm, width of sides 192mm (fits between 200mm shelf gaps). Mini Size: Overall height: 101 mm, Height (base to lip): 89 mm, Top lip overhang: 18 mm, Top plate width: 210 mm (both sides), Body width: 192 mm (fits between shelf gaps just under 200 mm).

Packaging: Delivered flatpack with screws included (clamps not included)

IMPORTANT: After initial push-fit assembly, all screw holes must be piloted using a 2.5mm or 3mm drill bit (not included), except the 5 holes with a deeper countersink in the XL top which can self- tap with the included 20mm silver screws -see diagram.

Drilling straight through a clamped corner with a Midi square holding the joint — Clamp, pilot, then drive the screws straight through from the outside.

Clamps that fit

All common styles of rail clamp, including Festool, Makita and DeWalt, plus most Irwin clamps. The Mini square does not take the mini Irwin types. Clamps are not included.

Material choice

Both are 12 mm boards, CNC cut, and denser than standard MDF. Grey Valchromat is coloured all the way through and is the material we recommend. Moisture resistant MDF costs less and holds square just as well.

Delivery and lead times

UK: free delivery on every square and bundle. 2 to 5 working days after dispatch. Highlands and islands can take longer.

USA: free delivery on all bundles. Single squares are $30 on orders below $130. 3 to 14 working days after dispatch.

Returns

Tell us within 14 days of delivery if you want to return an order. Items need to be unused and in their original packaging. You pay the return postage. If anything arrives damaged or wrong, send us a photo and we will put it right.

these 3D squares are a total game changer. For over 20 years I have been making cabinets, wardrobes and shelving units with dominos as the main joining system. I had used Bessy corner clamps in the past as well but you were always battling between two corners to get the square. I saw the advert on line for these squares and thought I'd try them out. In the first place they are remarkably strong and rigid holding the two pieces at 90 degrees spot on allowing you to get the screws in place quickly. However the Eureka moment was when I realised that you can place the Festool style clamp in position, ready to receive the second piece of MDF, (As the design sort of locks the clamp in the ready position without it falling off), and then lock the clamp, all one handed whist your other hand holds the second piece of MDF! Just genius and saving loads of time. Four 5-piece cabinets as the base of shelving units would have taken half a day with the dominos and clamps and glue up. I was finished within the hour with these squares. Then there were the shelving units themselves with one fixed shelf for strength in all of them and a top section. Again an hour to build. I had done 3 days work in less then day!

They look great in the black MDF they are very well made, easy to put together, feel great and they all fit into a Festool systainer box to keep them safe and clean.

Every now and then you come across something that changes the way you do things for the better. U-Scribe jig's click dominos does what it says one the tin! The Greco QuickShot paint sprayer makes painting cabinets almost fun! The Souber door lock mortice, (Big thanks to Robin Clevett for the video},more than halves the time it takes to fit locks, and these Freebird 3D squares have drastically reduced my time on site and improved my carpentry making tenfold. Would highly recommend them to all carpenters.
